Has anyone seen this girl?

**warning- uber dooper negative post below. come back next week if you prefer sunny Kate

I'm sure I remember seeing her, but she feels really far away now.

Taking yesterday off wasn't quite enough to nip this in the bud, so have been off today as well. Off everything- off work, of my morning swim, off a planned date with my man. Just not off the couch.

The upshot of this is that I'm feeling slobbish and sluggish. I'm bored which means I'm eating heaps and badly. I'm tired which means I'm not exercising. And what can I do about it? It feels like the answer is "nothing." It's a frustrating cycle- the more I rest, the more lethargic I am. How much of the tiredness is sickness and how much is just plain, bog standard tiredness? How much is laziness? Why ME? Why cannot I not balance work with training? Neither my work weeks nor my training weeks have been that big. Everyone else is pulling down 14 hour weeks while juggling fulltime work and 2.4 kids. Plus what is the deal with the FOOD? Why is it that I can't just eat smart without counting? I don't want to count during m-thon training, but I don't want to be dragging 10 extra pounds around the lake in Rotorua. I badly need a kickstart, foodwise.

I tried to do a relaxed walk today, just to get some fresh air and hopefully pick up some energy, but even that was tough. I can't see speedwork tomorrow happening. Fortunately, I can still just barely keep my eye on the prize, as my long run is on Sunday (which means I have til Friday to do the speedwork).

Sorry for moaning. I hope the old Kate is back soon. I miss her!

Relax, Kate. Like you said, everything comes in cycles. Realizing where you are is a big help in recognizing that soon you will be back on the upswing.

I'm on day six of a nasty cold, so I empathize with you. I'm going to try the short walk in the fresh air today, as well and can only hope that both you and I are on the mend and will soon be back to regular training. Keep your chin up. The eating will most definitely get better when you do.

Hang in there. This too shall pass. You'll be back at it again soon! Get well soon!

We all go through it. Hang in there, it will pass. You'll start getting the "itchy legs, I need to run now" feeling again soon. Just don't force it or you'll risk injury - both physical and mental.

Go swim or run - just easy, no HR monitor, no timing, nothing. Just do it, and while you're doing it, enjoy it!

I felt that way last week - it will pass.

It's OK...you will be back to yourself soon! Stupid cold keeping ya down.

I was having the same problem recently. I got to admit though after taking 2 days off when I was sick, getting back into it made me feel better and more normal!

You'll get past it... like Wes says, it's cyclical. I had two weeks in Feb that featured 4 hours of training. Just let it be what it is. You're fine. You're GREAT, Kate! Take the "down" days every now and then if that's what Ironman brings you.

Definitely sounds like one of those "down" cycles. It will pass... they always do. Sometimes your body knows better than your head what it needs. Rest and you'll be back at it in no time.

I have the same cruddy cold Mallie has, I fear. :( You're right...it's so hard to get MOVING when you're so TIRED. I feel that right now. I think going for walks is the right thing to do--once you're out there, you'll remember how much you like it! Now I need to heed that advice...but it's 14 degrees out! BOO! :)

I hate to sound like an "old-timer", but take it from an old-timer who is 47 and has been running for 35+ years, ALL of us go through what you are experiencing. From my own experience, I always come back stronger and more determined than ever. The missing woman in the picture will be found, no doubt.

By the way, I want to thank you for linking to our Blog Database on the main Faithful Soles web site. We now have bloggers from 37 states in the USA and 20 other countries.
